The workflow

From rough sketch to print-ready plans in four steps.

HauntBuilder covers the whole design loop — sketch the floor plan, walk it under haunt lighting, check it against fire-code basics, then hand off plans and material lists.

/01

Sketch the haunt

Drag walls, doors, actor runs and FX nodes onto a snapping grid in the 2D editor. Modular wall panels — 4 ft and 8 ft solid, plus curtain, chain-link and plexiglass — snap to 1×1, 4×4 or 4×8 ft grids, so layouts stay buildable and measurable.

  • Walls, doors & openings, jump-scare zones, hidden actor runs, platforms
  • FX nodes: fog, strobe, dim light, sound trigger, motion sensor
  • Layer toggles for walls, actor runs, FX & wiring, emergency & safety
/02

Walk it in the dark

Switch to the 3D walkthrough and move through the haunt in first person at eye height. The lighting simulation matches the dark experience: dimmer nodes become dimmable point lights, strobes flash, fog nodes drive scene fog, and a camera flashlight helps you test what guests will really see.

  • First-person camera — WASD + mouse look, walk or sprint, with wall collision
  • Line-of-sight probe from your position to any scare zone (VISIBLE / BLOCKED)
  • Live scare-angle readout and headroom warnings
/03

Validate it

The safety validator flags corridor widths under 3.5 ft (measured wall-to-wall) and dead-end or sealed rooms with no egress route, so problems surface before construction. The guest throughput calculator estimates capacity per hour from path length, bottlenecks and group batching.

  • Fire-code-aware checks: corridors, egress, headroom
  • Throughput estimate with corridor and door bottleneck analysis
  • Catch pinch points before the inspector does
/04

Export it

Hand off print-ready plans and material lists. Vector PDFs come in two presets — Building Inspector (with fire-code corridor annotations) and Actor Training (scare and FX symbols) — and the BOM auto-counts flats, fasteners, doors and zone-grouped electrical drops.

  • Print-ready vector PDFs — two presets
  • Auto-counted BOM: flats, fasteners, doors, electrical drops
  • JSON project export for backups and moving work between machines
